Mass of Planet Unknown

Nemesis is a hypothetical red or brown dwarf star first suggested in 1984 to be orbiting the Sun at ~95 000 au (1.5 light years), even farther than the Oort Cloud, the outermost region of the system. Nemesis is supposed to explain a cycle of mass extinctions in the geological record, which seem to occur more often at intervals of 26 million years - over the course of its orbit Nemesis crosses the Oort Cloud sending long period comets to bomb the inner system.

The existence of Nemesis is nearly unaccepted due to nearly no evidence of our solar system being a binary star system, besides the fact that we still didnt discover it and that binary star systems are usually closer to each other, there also are the following arguments:

  1. Nemesis would cause gravitonal disturbances in orbits of existing objects. For example Neptune was found because its disturbing Uranus (i know how that sounded).
  2. Space probes would also be disturbed, could suddenly change trajectories, etc.
  3. Kuiper belt/Scattered disc/Oort cloud would have a specific structure made by Nemesis' gravitation
