The Universe is currently thought to only be 13.5 billion years old. Scientists believe that it was created after the Big Bang, a massive explosion of a single atom with infinite density. Because it was being so compressed it exploded and released debris at nearly the speed of light. This explosion is only a theory and current projects are trying to find evidence to see if it really happened.
History[]
Half a century ago people thought that the Universe was only 5 billion years old like our Sun (there was no connection, it was just a coincidence being at the creation of the Sun). Researches then determined what caused the creation of the Universe and its real age, now known as 13.5 billion years, much older than our Sun.
